Appalachian State University men’s soccer defender Lee Williams has been named to the 2012 Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermann Trophy Watch List, the highest individual award in intercollegiate soccer. The annual watch list

was announced by the MAC and National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) on Monday.
Williams returns to the Mountaineers’ backline with 45 starts in the last three seasons, recording two assists and 19 shots. The Liverpool, England native was named to the all-SoCon second team last season.
The senior joins the list of 41 other players from Division I programs across the nation and is one of three players from the Southern Conference to make the list, as Furman’s Coleton Henning and Walker Zimmerman each earned a spot.
The list will be narrowed down by the NSCAA to 15 players by November 29th. Once listed, coaches and fans can vote for the semifinalists and the finalists will be announced December 6th. The winner will be announced at the MAC awards banquet on Friday, Jan. 11.
Williams and the rest of the Mountaineers will open up their preseason with an exhibition at High Point on Saturday, Aug. 18 at 7 p.m. App State begins its regular season at home against East Tennessee State on Friday, Aug. 24 at 7 p.m.
