Adam Wainwright (10-10), coming off a complete game against Milwaukee, held the San Francisco Giants to one run on five hits and struck out seven in seven innings Thursday afternoon handing the St. Louis Cardinals a 3-1 win at Busch Stadium. Wainright is 3-1 in his last five starts with a 1.75 earned run average and has lowered his ERA below four for
the first time since April 7. Madison Bumgarner (12-7) tossed his sixth straight quality start but could not outduel Wainwright. The left-hander gave up three runs on three hits and struck out seven in six innings of work in the losing cause. The woes continue for the Giants as they dropped a 3-0 decision to the Colorado Rockies at AT&T Park in San Francisco Friday night. The Giants have fallen into a first-place tie with the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West. The Dodgers, despite their recent problems, defeated Miami 5-2 Friday night.
