The Hickory Crawdads and Asheville Tourists split Friday night's doubleheader, with Hickory taking the first game 2-0 before the Tourists responded with a 4-1 win in game two at L.P. Frans Stadium. But despite the split, the 'Dads remain in a first-place tie with West Virginia in the North Division of the South Atlantic League. In the opener, the Crawdads (26-21, 62-54)
jump in front in the bottom of the fourth. Drew Robinson led off with a single, advanced to second on a groundout, he moved to third on a single by Alejandro Selen before he scored on a wild pitch for the game's first run.
The Crawdads doubled their lead in the bottom of the fifth. Kevin Torres drove in the insurance run as he led off the inning with a solo home run that gave Hickory a 2-0 lead.
Winning pitcher Andrew Faulkner (4-4) kept the Tourists (25-22, 72-45) at bay. Faulkner finished with 5.2 innings shutout innings allowing just five hits with seven strikeouts and no walks. Phil Klein logged the final 1.1 innings in relef to close things out for his eighth save of the year.
In game two, the Tourists (26-22, 73-45) responded by taking an early lead in game two with a run in the first inning. scoring in the first inning against LHP Kevin Matthews (L, 2-3). SS Taylor Featherston led off the game with a walk and he eventually scored on an RBI single by Jordan Ribera for a 1-0 lead. The Tourists added two more runs in the top of the second inning. Jose Rivera had as run-scoring double and he scored one out later when Featherston followed with a line drive to third that got by Drew Robinson for a error.
After Ribera belted a solo home run in the top of the sixth that gave Asheville a 4-0 lead. The 'Dads (26-22, 62-55) scored their only run in the bottom of the sixth. got on the board against LHP Tyler Anderson (W, 10-2) in the bottom of the sixth. Luis Sardinas walked with one out and he scored on Zach Cone's RBI double to left-center field one out later.
