School Scam Warning Issued PDF Print

Law enforcement in the High Country are warning area residents about a possible scam targeting schools here during the first week of classes. A business operator reported that a company called asking for a donation for "No time for Crime" to support Hardin Park School's Bullying program. They had a local contact name in their pitch and the school's number, and asked for $150 donation. The Boone resident called the school, then police to report the apparent scam, giving police a toll-free number she had for a return call, a company out of Texas. Principal Mary Smalling reported the incident to the school offices, and Superintendent Dr. David Kafitz passed the information along to law enforcement, all schools, hoping that all business operators in the area know of the apparent scam. No such effort is underway in the school system, according to school officials.
