Ashe Caretaker Taken to Jail PDF Print

Ashe Sheriff James Williams reports the arrest of Jason Dean Cockerham, 32, of West Jefferson, on charges of Felonious Larceny and Larceny of Firearm. Cockerham was employed by the victim of the theft as a caretaker and handy man. He lived at the residence in exchange for these jobs.  Victim discovered a large quantity of jewelry missing and 3 handguns missing.  Much of the jewelry was family heirlooms, and much of the jewelry had been melted down, however the detective did recover some of the stones from the melted jewelry.  Several of the stones that were recovered amounting to approximately $1,800 from the pawn shop. The three guns were antiques, and two of these have been recovered.  The victim is an elderly lady living in the Beaver Creek area, according to Sheriff Williams. Cockerham was jailed in the Ashe County Jail since his arrest on August 1st on a  $45,000 bond.  Further charges are currently being taken by Sgt. Anders as he continues his investigation.
