Appalachian State women’s soccer opened its preseason schedule with a 2-0 victory over Campbell Thursday evening, after a series of lightning delays forcing the match to end two minutes early. The Mountaineers struck first in the 50th as senior midfield Taylor Dunlap snuck a shot past Campbell’s Ryann Torrero to put App State ahead. Minutes later, ASU

got on the board for the second time as the ball deflected off the shoe of a Campbell defender into the back of the net for an own goal.
The Fighting Camels never threatened in the game as they managed just two shots on goal, both stopped by sophomore Jordan Hatton. The Apps tallied nine shots for the match, while Campbell finished with seven. Appalachian put four shots on target and also took four corner kicks to the Camels’ one. The Mountaineers return to the pitch on Sunday, Aug. 12 at 7 p.m. to close out their preseason at East Tennessee State.
