Akins Three-Run Blast Halts Drive PDF Print

A three-run homer by CF Jordan Akins in the top of the seventh powered the  Hickory Crawdads to the 8-4 victory against the Greenville Drive at Fluor Field in Greenville Saturday night. The win also moves Hickory within one game of first place in the North Division of the South Atlantic League. West Virginia moved into a first place tied with Hagerstown by knocking

off Lakewood, 9-1; Lexington defeated Hagerstown, 8-0.   Akins three-run bomb snapped a 4-4 tie in the seventh;  Trever Adams got things started with a lead-off walk. He moved to third on a double by Kellin Deglan. Akins then followed with his ninth home run of the year that gave the 'Dads (23-20; 59-53) a 7-4 lead. Deglan homered in the ninth. The 'Dads hit three home runs on Saturday
Alejandro Selen belted a solo shot that tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the second inning; an RBI double by Adams in the second inning gave the Crawdads a 2-1 lead. Hickory added two more runs in the third. Luis Sardinas, who led off the inning with a walk, eventually scored on a wild pitch making it 3-1; and an RBI single by Drew Robinson gave Hickory a 4-1 advantage. But Greenville (21-21; 55-37) tied the game on a three-run homer by Jose Garcia in the fourth.
Robinson was 2-3 with an RBI; Deglen was 2-4 with two runs scored, a home run and an RBI. Paul Schwendel (1-0) picked up the win with four scoreless innings of relief. He scattered three hits, walked two and struck out four.
