Post 29 Falls To Cherryville At State PDF Print

The Caldwell County Post 29 American Legion baseball team saw its season come to an end Saturday afternoon. Post 29 (28-10) dropped a 5-1 decision to Cherryville Post 100 in an elimination game in the American Legion State Tournament at MS Deal Stadium in Granite Falls. Despite the loss, Post 29 finishes among the top four teams in the state. 

Caldwell grabbed an early 1-0 lead on an RBI single by Max Linnville in the third inning, but from that point on winning pitcher Dylan Hastings kept Post 29 in check. Caldwell only made three hits; Linnville was 1-4 with an RBI; David Martin was 0-3. Hastings went the distance and gave up an earned run on three hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
Ethan Greene got the start and had a one-hit shutout going into the top of the seventh inning. Greene, who suffered the loss, gave up two runs, one earned, on nine hits with no walks and four strikeouts. Cherryville tied the game in the seventh on a solo home run by Chandler Jenkins; and Post 100 took the lead with an unearned run in the eighth. Cherryville broke the game open with three runs in the ninth. Josh Beam had a run-scoring single in the inning that plated an insurance run for a 3-1 lead; Seth Weekley followed with a two run single that made it 5-1.
