Post 29 Falls In Second Round At State Tournament PDF Print

Bryan Sammons scattered seven hits and Caldwell County Post 29 dropped a 9-7 decision to Wilmington Post 10 in the second round of the North Carolina American Legion State baseball playoffs at M.S. Deal Stadium on Thursday. Wilmington (30-7), the Area 2 second seed, advances to the winner’s bracket where it faces Area 4 top-seed Cherryville Post 100

(33-9) at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Caldwell (27-9) falls into the loser’s bracket where it faces Randolph County Post 45 (31-10) in an elimination game at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
Post 29 basically hurt itself by leaving too many men on base. Caldwell County was a disappointing 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position. Post 29 left six runners in scoring position; and they left five of those runners on in four of the last five innings. Post 29 was 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position during that stretch. Caldwell County scored its final run in the eighth, but left the bases loaded. Max Linnville paced Post 29 with three hits; Austin Beard belted a grand slam and drove in four runs in the loss.
