The Hickory Crawdads rallied but their comeback came up short as they dropped a 4-3 decision to Kannapolis at L.P. Frans Stadium. The loss leaves Hickory (21-19; 57-52) just one game out of first place in the North Division of the South Atlantic League standings. Hagerstown, which begins the day in a first-place tie with West Virginia, defeated the Power 12-7 Wednesday night; Delmarva defeat4ed Lakewood, 6-5.
The Crawdads nearly wiped out a 4-1 deficit against the Intimidators (15-23; 48-60). Drew Robinson made 4-2 as he drove in a run with a ground-ball out in the third; Zach Cone scored on a wild pitch in the sixth to make it, 4-3. The 'Dads put runners on first and second with one out in the bottom of the ninth, but Max Peterson, who picked up his third save of the year, retired the next two batters to end the game.
The Intimidators built a 4-1 lead by scoring three runs in the top of the third. Chris Curley highlighted the inning with a two-run homer. Curley paced Kannapolis with three RBI. Roughed Odor paced Hickory going 2-5; Jorge Alfaro had a double, drove in a run and he walked. Jerad Eickoff (11-5) went five innings and suffered the loss. He gave up four earned runs on seven hits.
