A two-out run-scoring single in the bottom of the ninth inning by Kevin Torres gave the Hickory Crawdads a 4-3 win against the Kannapolis Intimidators at L.P. Frans Stadium on Monday night. The win coupled with West Virginia pounding Hagerstown 14-2 Monday night leaves the Crawdads, the Power and the Suns in a three-way tie for first place in the North Division of

the South Atlantic League. Lakewood, which defeated Delmarva 8-0, is a game off the pace in fourth. The Intimidators (13-23, 46-60) took an early 2-0 lead in the the top of the third thanks to a two-run single by Joey DeMichele. But the Crawdads (21-17, 57-50) responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the third. Luis Sardinas doubled down the left field line with one out and he scored on Alejandro Selen's RBI single to left field that cut the Intimidators lead in half at 2-1.
The 'Dads took their first lead of the game with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. A walk, a single, a stolen base, and an error put runners on second and third with two outs. And Sardinas brought them home with a two-run single to shallow left field, leap-frogging the Crawdads in front, 3-2. But the Intimidators tied it up with a run in the top of the eighth. Kyle Robinson drove in the tying run with a ground ball to second base.
Grayson set the stage for Torees' ninth-inning heroics with a lead-off double. He move to third on a ground ball out by Trever Adams and he scored Torres base hit to win the game. Sardinas and Selen each had three hits apiece to pace the 'Dads. Kevin Matthews got the start Monday night, but he coughed up two earned runs on four hits with four walks in five-plus innings for a no decision. Taylor Dennis (2-0) picked up the win with an inning of scoreless relief in the top of the ninth.
