The Lees-McRae College women's track and field team has been recognized as one of 83 NCAA Division II all-Academic Track & Field Teams by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, earning

the distinction as the lone representative from Conference Carolinas, announced USTFCCCA officials Thursday.
"This is a great accomplishment by our young women," said Director of Athletics Craig McPhail. "It is a testament to their tremendous work ethic, both in the classroom and on the track, and we couldn't be more proud of them."
The Bobcats are one of 83 teams in the nation to sport a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or better, carrying a mark of 3.06 as a squad to represent the conference. Lees-McRae is one of two representatives from the southeast region, joining conference alum Anderson University, which carries a GPA of 3.23 as a team.
Lees-McRae enjoyed a strong season in 2011-2012, placing five athletes on the USTFCCCA all-Southeast Region team, including freshman standout Meagan Thornton (Millville, N.J.), who earned all-region honors in both the 100- and 400-meter hurdles. Sophomores Kortnie Curry (Lexington, N.C.) and Taryn Moorhead (Deer Park, Wash.), and freshmen Rachelle Cleveland (Moyock, N.C.) and Taylor Pritchett (Apex, N.C.) also garnered all-region recognition for the Bobcats, who placed fourth at this year's Conference Carolinas Championships.
