The Hickory Crawdads elbowed their way back into first place in the North Division of the South Atlantic League with a 6-3 win against the Delmarva Shorebirds at L.P. Frans Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. The win coupled with Lakewood's 10-3 win against Hagerstown leaves the Crawdads and the Suns in a first-place tie; West Virginia, which

defeated Greensboro 4-2, and Lakewood are tied for third just one game off the pace. The Crawdads were backboned by Alejandro Selen and Zach Cone. Selen homered twice; Cone belted his second home run in as many dayhs and drove in two runs. The Crawdads (19-14, 55-47) took an early 3-0 lead with two runs in the bottom of the first and they picked up another run in the second inning. Chris Grayson got things started with a two-out walk in the first inning and he scored on Cone's two-run bomb over the left-center field wall; Kevin Torres drove in Hickory's third run with a sacrifice fly in the second inning.
Delmarva (13-19, 41-60) broke through against Kevin Matthews with a run in the top of the fourth. Mikey Planeta doubled to start the inning and was joined on the bases by Brenden Webb, who was hit by a pitch. Sammie Starr drove in Planeta with an RBI double, cutting the deficit to 3-1. Matthews went four innings and gave up a run on two hits with four walks. Phil Klein (6-0) came on in relief and tossed three scoreless innings for his sixth win of the year.
Hickory put the contest out of reach with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth. Selen led off the frame with a solo home run. Jorge Alfaro followed with a double; he took third on a single by Drew Robinson. Torres drove in his second run of the game with a sacrifice fly for a 5-1 lead.
Selen smacked his second home run of the game in the bottom of the sixth for a 6-1 lead. The Shorebirds plated a pair of runs against RHP Daniel Lopez in the top of the eighth, but Taylor Dennis took over in the ninth and picked up his first save of the year.
