'Dads Earn Split With BlueClaws PDF Print

The Hickory Crawdads and Lakewood BlueClaws split Sunday's doubleheader, with Lakewood claiming the first game, 7-3, and the 'Dads taking game two, 2-1 at L.P. Frans Stadium. The Crawdads, BlueClaws and Hagerstown Suns are currently tied for first place in the in the Northern Division of the South Atlantic League. In game one, Lakewood

(17-13; 43-56) rallied for an early 2-0 deficit. Trailing 2-1 the BlueClaws scored six times in the top of the fifth inning. With two on and nobody out, Aaron Altherr doubled in a run to tie the game. Kelly Dugan followed with a two-run single before Chris Duffy belted a two-run homer to highlight the rally.
In game two, the Crawdads (17-13, 53-46) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, and this time they made it stand up. Chris Grayson scored a run and drove in a run in the win. He scored on an RBI double by Zach Cone to straight-away center field in the bottom of the first inning that gave Hickory a 1-0 lead. The 'Dads doubled their lead in the bottom of the third. With one out, Trever Adams singled his way on, stole second base and moved to third on a wild pitch. Grayson drove him in with an RBI double to left-center field for a 2-0 lead. Winning pitcher Santo Perez (3-8) tossed four scoreless innings before the BlueClaws picked up an unearned run in the top of the fifth. Maikel Franco was hit by a pitch to start the inning, and moved to second base on a wild pitch. Miguel Alvarez reached base on a fielding error by Adams, advancing Franco to third. Franco scored on a double-play ball by Brock Stassi.
Perez escaped the rest of the fifth with the lead intact before Jose Monegro tossed two scoreless innings for his second save of the year.
