Lakewood Pulls Into First-Place Tie With 'Dads PDF Print

The Lakewood BlueClaws moved into a first-place tie with the Hickory Crawdads Friday night in the North Division of the South Atlantic League. with an 8-7 win at L.P. Frans Stadium on Friday night. The Hagerstown Suns remained a game behind after they dropped a double header at home against Augusta; West Virginia is 1 1/2 games back after it split

a double header against Delmarva. The BlueClaws (16-12, 42-55) built an early 3-0 lead only to see the Crawdads come back to tie game. With the score tied at 5-5, the Crawdads moved ahead for the first time with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth. Rougned Odor started the inning by reaching base after he struck out on a pitch in the dirt.  Lakewood catcher Gabriel Lino blocked the ball, but his throw sailed into right field allowing Odor to reach second base. One out later, Odor raced home on an RBI single by Chris Grayson. Alejandro Selen drove in another run with an RBI single for a 7-5 lead.
After Lakewood eventually tied up the game thanks to Kelly Dugan, who singled home a run in the sixth and he drove in another run with an RBI single in the eighth. The BlueClaws moved in front in the top of the ninth against losing pitcher Daniel Lopez (0-2). Miguel Alvarez singled to lead off the inning, and then raced to third on a bunt single  by Brock Stassi that was compounded by a throwing error. Alvarez then darted home on a wild pitch allowing Lakewood to regain the lead, 8-7.
Kenny Giles (3-3), who tossed three innings in relief, retired the side in order to nail down the win.
Selen paced Hickory with two hits and four RBI; Grayson was 2-3 with an RBI; Jordan Akins had two hits.
