The Delmarva Shorebirds swung by the Hickory Crawdads, 15-3, before 2,576 fans at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium in Salisbury on Monday night. The Shorebirds (8-16, 36-57) jumped in front with four runs in the first frame against Victor Payano (L, 5-5). With two on and one away, an RBI base hit
by Michael Ohlman started the scoring, followed later in the frame by a two-run single from Jason Esposito and a run-scoring error to make it 4-0.
After Delmarva added one in the second, they blew the game open with seven runs in the bottom of the third. With the bases loaded and no outs, Wynston Sawyer drove in a pair with a two-run single. After a base hit reloaded the bases, Glynn Davies was hit by a pitch from Santo Perez to force in a run, and then Jerome Pena belted a three-run double off the left-field fence. Brenden Webb capped the inning with an RBI single, stretching it to 12-0.
After five no-hit frames by Zach Davies (W, 4-2), the 'Dads (15-10, 51-43) broke up the no-hitter and the shutout in the top of the sixth. With two on and two down, Zach Cone lasered an RBI single to center field, plating Chris Grayson from third and getting Hickory on the board, 12-1.
The Crawdads continued chipping away in the top of the eighth inning. Grayson led off with a base hit, and then Trever Adams unloaded a two-run homer over the left-field fence, cutting the deficit to 12-3. However, the Shorebirds responded with three final runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, accounting for the 15-3 final score in the Delmarva win.
