The Hickory Crawdads ended their four-game losing streak impressively on Sunday night. They rushed the Delmarva Shorebirds 13-5 at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. The win also pulls the crawdads within one half game of first place in the North Division of the South Atlantic League. Hagerstown, which remains in first place, dropped an 8-1 decision at

Lexington on Sunday. Lakewood is one half game back after the BlueClaws defeated Savannah, 6-5; West Virginia fell two-and-a-half games back with a 4-3 loss at Augusta. Alejandro Selen backboned the Crawdads with four hits, including a home run and three runs-batted-in. Trever Adams knocked in three runs; Jorge Alfaro had two hits and two RBI. The Crawdads also broke out of their team slump at the plate at they pounded out 14 hits. Hickory (15-9, 51-42) grabbed a 3-0 lead in the first inning. The inning started when Jordan Akins struck out on a wild pitch, but was able to reach first base as the ball bounced to the backstop.  After singles by Jhonny Gomez and Chris Grayson loaded the bases, Trever Adams reached on an error by third baseman Jason Esposito with Akins scoring on the play. Another Delmarva error and an RBI fielder's choice by Jorge Alfaro accounted for the other two runs in frame.
The 'Dads doubled the lead with three more runs in the fourth.  Two singles by Alejandro Selen and Akins, followed by a walk to Gomez, loaded the bases with nobody out. Grayson singled and drove in a run, making it 4-0; a double play ball by Adams and a Shorebirds miscue scored the other two runners, stretching the lead to 6-0. Hickory tacked on another in the top of the fifth when Selen belted a solo home run.
After the Shorebirds (7-16, 35-57) got on the board with a run in the bottom of the fifth and another run in the bottom of the sixth, the Crawdads put the game away with two runs in the seventh and four more runs in the eighth. Adams had a two-run single in the eighth.  One out later, Zach Cone singled Adams to second base. Kellin Deglan reached on an error that loaded the bases wtih two outs. A wild pitch and an RBI single by Selen plated the final two runs giving the Crawdads a 13-2 lead.
