Ethan Greene has continued his winning ways this summer. Greene, who backboned the Watauga High baseball team to the second-round of the state playoffs during the spring, has marched the Caldwell County Post 29 American Legion team to the Area IV Western Semfinals. The right hander, who will attend Pfeiffer University in Misenheimer, N.C.,

this fall, tossed another gem on Saturday. He scattered six hits lifting Caldwell County to a 3-1 win over Mint Hill in the fifth and deciding game at M.S. Deal Stadium on Saturday.
Caldwell won its best of five series with Mint Hill Post 4059, the No 4 seed out of the East, 3 games to 2. Caldwell (25-5), the top seed out of the West, advances to the semifinals for a second consecutive year where it meets the Gaston
Braves for a berth in the Area IV championship. Gaston (16-4), the second seed out of the East, swept its best-of-five
(3-0) series with Hickory Post 48 and has been idle since completing the sweep on July 11.
Game 1 of the best-of-five series is slated to start Sunday with the first pitch at 7 p.m. at M.S. Deal Stadium and will mark the return of Post 29 manager Brandon Banks, who has been serving a five-game suspension. Game 2 will be at Gaston and Game 3 will be back at M.S. Deal Stadium on Tuesday. Greene retired the side in order six times Saturday night. Mint Hill (19-9) finally scored its only run in the eighth inning.
Greene faced 21 batters over the final six innings; he recorded nine of his 10 strikeouts from the fourth through the eighth innings. Greene struck out six of the nine batters he faced during that stretch.
