|Smith Fuels 18-Hit Attack For 'Hoppers|

Former Appalachian State Mountaineer Rand Smith was on fire Saturday night. He went 4-5 with a run scored and he drove in a run as the Greensboro Grasshoppers, the Class A affiliate of the Miami Marlins, defeated the Kannapolis Intimidiator 12-2 in a South Atlantic League game. Smith is hitting 265 with a home run and 19 runs-batted-in with
five doubles, a triple and 24 runs scored....Tyler Tewell, who was taken by the Atlanta Braves in the 14th round of the Major League Baseball Draft, has turned his fortures around following a slow start at the professional level. Tewell his hitting .294 in 12 games with the Rookie Gulf Coast League Braves. He has two home runs and 11 RBI....Nathan Hyatt of the Mountaineers, taken by the Braves in the 13th round of the MLB Draft, is 2-0 with two saves in six appearances with the Danville Braves of the Rookie Class A Appalahcian League. He has given up two earned runs in eight innings; he has 12 strikeouts and two walks allowed with a 2.25 earned-run-average....Jeremy Dowdy, who was promoted to the Winston-Salem Dash of the Advanced Class A Carolina League following a four-game stay with the Bristol White Sox of the Appalachian League, is batting .250 in five games with the Dash. He has two doubles and he's driven in two runs among his five hits.....And Will Callaway of ASU is batting .247 in 20 games with the Hyannis Harbor Hawks of the collegiate wooden bat Cape Cod League. Callaway has a home run with 13 RBI, four douvbles and a triple among his 18 hits.
