The state’s top-ranked running back has made a verbal commitment to play for North Carolina, according to his school’s athletic director. T.J. Logan from Northern Guilford High in Greensboro made his pledge to UNC on Tuesday afternoon over offers from Auburn, California, Clemson, N.C. State, Ohio State, South Carolina (runner-up), Tennessee,

Virginia, Wake Forest and West Virginia.
“He has committed to Chapel Hill,’’ Northern Guilford athletic director Brian Thomas said Tuesday afternoon. “With all his options, you couldn’t have blamed him for going elsewhere out of state. But he chose to stay close to home so we can all go watch him play.’’
Northern Guilford coach Johnny Roscoe and Logan were both in South Carolina attending a seven-on-seven passing camp and could not be reached for comment Tuesday. Logan became a varsity starter at Northern Guilford as a sophomore when he rushed for 1,072 yards and 14 touchdowns. As a two-way star during Northern’s run to the state 3-AA championship last season, he rushed for 2,468 yarsd and 38 touchdowns, had 27 catches for 378 yards and three scores, made 123 tackles and five interceptions on defense and averaged more than 25 yards on punt and kickoff returns. ranks Logan the nation’s No. 4 all-purpose back, while rates him the No. 37 running back overall. The commitment gives UNC commitments from what most believe are the state’s top two running backs in Logan and Kris Francis from Durham’s Hillside High. Logan is the 11th player to join the Tar Heel recruiting class.
