The Lakewood BlueClaws evened up their fourp-game series with the Hickory Crawdads with a 9-3 win at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood on Wednesday afternoon. The Crawdads (14-6, 50-39), who saw their lead trimmed to one half-game game over Hagerstown in the North Division, jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. With one out, Trever
Adams singled before Drew Robinson brought him home with a run-scoring double for a 1-0 lead. Zach Cone followed with a towering two-run homer to left field that gave the Crawdads an early 3-0 advantage.
But from that point on, Lakewood (11-9, 37-52) took control. The BlueClaws responded with four runs in the bottom of the first. A pair of singles and a fielder's choice loaded the bases with nobody out, An RBI fielder's choice by Chris Duffy made it 4-1, and one out later, Maikel Franco launched a three-run home run giving Lakewood a 4-3 lead. The BlueClaws, who moved within three games of first place in the North Division, poured it on with four more runs in the bottom of the second. With two men on and one out, Kelly Dugan belted a two-run double that gave Lakewood a 6-3 lead; an RBI double by Duffy made it 7-3, Duffy, who advanced to third, eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Franco, making it 8-3.
The BlueClaws closed thing out with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Dugan led off with a base hit and quickly swiped second base. Franco, who backboned Lakewood with five RBI, drove him in with a single that gave the BlueClaws a 9-3 lead. Losing pitcher Victor Payano (5-4) was touched up for nine earned runs on three innings.
