Sam Runion has been through the school of hard knocks. Runion, who was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the second round of the Major League Baseball Draft in 2007, is battling his way back from Tommy John surgery. Runion, who played at A.C. Reynolds High School, is currently playing for the Wilmington (Del.) Blue Rocks (an affiliate of the

Kansas City Royals) of the Advanced Class A Carolina League. Runion, who has given up two earned runs in his last nine appearances, is 3-1 with a 2.42 earned-run average and has 33 strikeouts in 44.2 innings pitched. He has allowed only one home run.
