The Hickory Crawdads picked up a huge win to open their eight-game road trip Tuesday night. The Crawdads defeated the Lakewood BlueClaws 5-4 at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood. The Crawdads (14-5, 50-38) also picked up a game on Lakewood in the North Division race. Hickory leads the BlueClaws by four games for first place; Hagerstown remains

a game back as the Suns defeated Greensboro 9-7 on the road.  The Crawdads raced out to a 4-0 lead with four runs in the top of the first inning. Rougned Odor started the inning by reaching on an error. He moved to second on a passed ball. Trever Adams singled Odor to third base, and Drew Robinson drove him in one out later with an RBI single for the 1-0 lead.  A wild pitch plated Adams from third and advanced Robinson to second base before Chris Grayson ripped an RBI double driving in Robinson for a 3-0 lead. A pair of walks loaded the bases; Nick Urbanus closed out the inning with an RBI infield single that scored Grayson, capping off the four-run frame.
Lakewood (10-9, 36-52) battled back with two runs in the second inning. A lead off double by Aaron Altherr and an RBI double by Brock Stassi made it 4-1; and a sacrifice fly Alejandro Villalobos made it 4-2. Lakewood picked up another run in the third. The BlueClaws loaded the bases with nobody out to start the inning, but winning pitcher Will Lamb (3-6) got out of the jam with only giving up one run. Leading 4-3, the 'Dads stretched the lead back out in the top of the fourth. Odor started the frame with a triple and then darted home on an RBI ground out by Adams, making it 5-3.
Lakewood scored in the bottom of the fifth, but the Crawdads bullpen took over and slammed the door. Phil Klein was dominated as he struck out the side in both the sixth and seventh innings; Arlett Mavare tossed a pair of scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth innings for his third save. Odor had two hits and scored twice; Adams, Robinson and Grayson each had two hits and an RBI apiece.
