The Hickory Crawdads bounced back Friday night by knocking off the Delmarva Shorebirds 5-2 at L.P. Frans Stadium on Friday night. Hagerstown stayed two games back in the North Division of the south Atlantic League with a 5-4 win against Lexington Friday night. But Lakewood fell three games back; the BlueClaws lost at West Virginia, 5-4. The Crawdads

(12-4, 48-37) jumped out to a 4-0 lead with a four-run outburst in bottom of the second inning. Jordan Akins drove in a run with an RBI grounder that gave Hickory a 1-0 lead; Nick Urbanus followed with a two-run single, making it 3-0. Urbanus moved to second base on an error by catcher Wynston Sawyer. Urbanus raced home on an RBI single by Rougned Odor giving Hickory its four-run advantage.
Nick Martinez (5-2), who picked up his fifth win of the year, kept the Shorebirds off the board through five scoreless innings. The SAL All-Star struck out four and only gave up two hits. Delmarva (4-11, 32-52) got on the board in the top of the sixth. Nicky Delmonico hit a two-run homer cutting the deficit in half at 4-2. But Hickory padded its lead with an insurance run in the bottom the eighth. Jorge Alfaro led off with a triple to right-center field; Kellin Deglan walked with two outs to keep the inning alive, and Alfaro scored when Deglan, trying to steal second base, was caught in a rundown allowing Alfaro to cross the plate for a 5-2 lead. Phil Klein tossed two scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth innings for his sixth save of the year.
