The first-place Hickory Crawdads dropped a 6-4 decision to the Delmarva Shorebirds Thursday night at L.P. Frans Stadium. The Crawdads (11-4, 47-37) blew leads of 2-0 and 4-2. And with Hagerstown and Lakewood both winning Thursday night, the Crawdads saw their lead dwindled down to two games in the North Division of the South Atlantic League. the

Crawdads jumped out to an early 2-0 lead by the second inning. A run-scoring double by Drew Robinson to right-center field gave Hickory an early 1-0 lead in the first inning; an RBI single by Rougned Odor in the second inning plated Jhonny Gomez for a 2-0 lead. The Shorebirds (4-10, 32-51) tied the game in the top of the fourth. A two-run homer by Mike Ohlman tied the score at 2-2. Hickory regained the lead with two runs in the fifth inning.  With two out, Jorge Alfaro singled and Chris Grayson walked. Gomez belted a two-run double to the left-field corner to give the Crawdads their 4-2 lead.
But the Shorebirds came charging back with three runs of their own in the top of the sixth. Connor Narron led off with a single, Ohlman walked, and Wynston Sawyer walked loading the bases. A wild pitch by losing pitcher Arlett Mavare (3-4) made it, 4-3.  Adam Davis was hit by a pitch to reload the bases, and the Shorebirds plated two more runs on a fielder's choice and an error. Mychal Givens bounced a grounder to first, but first baseman Trever Adams fired wide of home plate, allowing two runs to score for the 5-4 Delmarva lead.
The Shorebirds added some insurance when a balk forced in a run in the top of the eighth. Devin Jones, who picked up his third save, logged four scoreless innings in relief to nail it down for Delmarva.
