The Watauga Junior American Legion baseball team will open the Area 4 Western Playoffs as the No.7 seed. The Junior Legion Team (7-7 in Area 4; 12-8-1 overall) travels to Sawmills, N.C., to play South Caldwell, the No.1 seed, in a best of three series beginning Friday night at 6 p.m. Watauga begins post-season play riding a four-game winning streak.

Watauga lost three of four against South Caldwell in the regular season.
"We really shouldn't be playing South Caldwell in the first round," said Watauga coach Bradley Rudisill. "They got our league record mixed up with West Caldwell. south should be playing West Caldwell in the first round, not us. But it's a mix up, and we just have to live with it."
Left hander Tripp Taylor gets the starting nod Friday night. Game two will be at Pioneer Field Saturday at 4 p.m., and if necessary, game three will be played in Sawmills Sunday night at 6 p.m. Watauga lost to A.C. Reynolds in the first round of the playoffs last summer.

Also according to Skippers Dugout, Auburn assistant coach Link Jarrett has taken his name out of consideration concerning the vacant baseball head coaching job at Appalachian State University.
