The Hickory Crawdads hung on for the 7-6 win against the Greensboro Grasshoppers at NewBridge Bank Park in Greensboro on Monday night. With the win, the first-place Crawdads have picked up their third straight series win to start the second half of the season, and are 6-2 on the current nine-game road trip, and they own a two-game lead in

the North Division of the South Atlantic League on Hagerstown and Lakewood, which are tied for second place.
And Hickory (9-3; 45-36) did it the hard way by coming from behind. With the Grasshoppers (5-7, 51-31) holding a 3-1 lead through the first four innings, the Crawdads finally jumped on top in the fifth against losing pitcher Austin Brice (5-3).  Consecutive singles by Luis Sardinas and Rougned Odor and a walk to Chris Grayson loaded the bases with nobody out. Alejandro Selen dealt the final blow against Brice with an RBI single that scored a run and made it 3-2. Trever Adams punched a two-run single to center field, followed by an RBI fielder's choice by Kellin Deglan, lifting Hickory to the 5-3 lead.
The Crawdads added two more runs in the top of the sixth against relief pitcher Johnny Omahen. Nick Urbanus walked to start the inning and moved to second on a bunt single by Odor one out later. After Grayson was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Selen struck again with a two-run single up the middle making it 7-3. Greensboro started chipping away in the bottom of the sixth against winning pitcher Arlett Mavare (3-3).  A two-run home run by Austin Barnes sliced the deficit in half, making it 7-5. And the Grasshoppers edged even closer in the bottom of the seventh against relief pitcher Chance Sossamon.  With one on and two down, Rand Smith, who played at Appalachian State University, launched an RBI double to center field driving in a run and making it, 7-6.
Sossamon excaped the seventh and dealt a scoreless eighth inning before Daniel Lopez slammed the door in the ninth for his second save of the year.
