The Greensboro Grasshoppers edged the Hickory Crawdads, 4-2, at NewBridge Bank Park on Saturday night. The Grasshoppers (5-5, 51-29) snapped a 2-2 tie against losing pitcher Arlett Mavare (2-3) in the bottom of the sixth. Tony Caldwell was hit by a pitch to start the inning, then took second on a balk.  One out later, he darted home on an

RBI double by Ryan Goetz, lifting Greensboro in front, 3-2. The Grasshoppers added an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single by James Wooster, making it 4-2. Brad Mincey closed things out in the ninth inning for his fifth save of the year.
The loss leaves Hickory with a one-game lead in the North Division of the South Atlantic League. Hagerstown lost 12-9 at Lakewood Saturday night. The win pulled Lakewood into a second-place tie with the Suns; West Virginia and Greensboro are both two games back.
Hickory fell behind 2-0 in the bottom of the second inning. But the Crawdads (7-3, 43-36) sliced the deficit in half in the top of the third.  Nick Urbanus got things started with a walk and worked around to third base on a pair of wild pitches by Charlie Lowell of Greensboro. With two down, Trever Adams brought Urbanus in with an RBI infield single, cutting the lead at 2-1. Adams struck again as he tied the game in the top of the fifth. With two down and the bases empty, Adams belted a solo bomb inside the left-field foul pole, squaring the score, 2-2.
James Nygren (5-1) of the Grasshoppers picked up the win as he worked two innings in relief. He gave up an earned run on two hits. Adams backboned Hickory offensively going 2-3 with a run scored, a home run and two RBI. The Crawdads only made six hits.
