Smith New AD At Avery High PDF Print

The Avery High athletic department has announced that David Wright has stepped down as the school's athletic director. Wright, who is retiring, will be replaced by Jamison "Jay" Smith, who has been part of the Avery High facility since 2005. Smith, who is anj Avery County native, graduated from Hickory in 1991. And Smith, who attended Montreat College,

has worked as a counselor with a combination of juvenile court and Department of Social Services in Catawba County for 13 years before he and his family returned to Avery County in 2005 when he accepted a position at Avery High. Wright officially retired on Friday, and Smith officially takes over on July 1. Smith served previously at Avery as assistant athletic director from 2009-10 and as assistant baseball coach from 2005-10.
