The Kannapolis Intimidators moved a  little closer to first place in the North Division of the South Atlantic League as they knocked off the Hickory Crawdads 5-3 Wednesday afternoon at CMC-Northeast Stadium in Kannapolis. The

win leaves Kannapolis just one-half game behind Hickory for first place. The Intimidators (4-2, 37-39) got out to a quick start, plating a pair in the bottom of the second inning. Martin Medina led off with a base hit and moved to second when Andrew Douglas was hit by a pitch.  One out later, Ross Wilson drove in a run with an RBI double; Grant Buckner's sacrifice fly to right field gave Kannapolis an early 2-0 lead.
Trailing 3-0, Hickory (5-2, 41-35) finally pushed a run across in the top of the sixth inning.  Drew Robinson sparked the stanza with a single, advancing to second on a base hit by Jeremy Williams and moving to third on a fielder's choice by Alejandro Selen. A sacrifice fly by Kellin Deglan scored Robinson and made it 3-1.
But the Intimidators picked up some insurance with single runs in the sixth and seventh innings for a 5-1 lead. The Crawdads rallied in the top of the eighth. Luis Sardinas led off with a single, Robinson walked and Sardinas advanced to third on a fly ball out to center field. He scored on a wild pitch, and Robinson advanced to second base on the play. Then Selen singled and a Deglan walk loaded the bases for C Kevin Torres, who skied an RBI sacrifice fly to center, drove in Robinson to make it, 5-3.
But Brian Blough, who picked up his sixth save of the year, quelled the rally and dealt a scoreless ninth inning to close out the game, Ryan Buch (2-0) tossed five scoreless innings and picked up the win. Kevin Matthews (1-2) suffered the loss; he gave up two earned runs in four innings with five strikeouts and three walks. Sardinas was 3-5 with a double and a run scored; Selen and Kevin Torres had two hits apiece for the Crawdads.
