The Greensboro Grasshoppers avoided the series sweep by hanging on for the 4-3 win against the Hickory Crawdads at L.P. Frans Stadium on Sunday night.  The teams also endured a one hour, 48 minutes in the bottom of the

fifth inning. The Grasshoppers snapped a 1-1 tie by scoring three unearned runs in the top of the fifth inning. Rand Smith, who played at Appalachian State University, got things started as he reached on a two-base error. He scored moments later on an RBI single by Austin Barnes. Barnes scored on an RBI double down the right field line by Aaron Senne, who then raced home on an RBI single by Ryan Rieger. That onslaught allowed Greensboro to take a 4-1 lead.
The Crawdads responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth. Jhonny Gomez led things off with a single and advanced to third on a double by Chris Grayson. Trever Adams made it 4-3 as he followed with a two-run double into the left-center field gap. But with Adams, respresenting the tying run on at second base, the teams went into their lengthy rain delay. Following the rain delay, winning pitcher James Nygren (3-1) of the Grasshoppers got out of the inning with no further damage being done.
Nygren kept the 'Dads from tying it through his three frames before Brad Mincey finished the game with two innings of scoreless relief to earn his fourth save. Santo Perez (2-7), who coughed up three unearned runs, suffered the loss for Hickory. Adams had two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs; Gomez had two hits in the loss; Alejandro Selen homered for the Crawdads.
