Junior Legion Splits Saturday DH PDF Print

The Watauga Junior American Legion team split its double header with Patton in Morganton on Saturday. Watauga (9-8-1 overall; 7-7 in Area 4) lost the first game, 5-1, but came back to win the second game, 4-2. Carson Isaacs backboned Watauga's win in game two with three hits, including a triple, with two runs scored and two runs-batted-in. Isaacs' snapped a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring triple in the fourth inning. Brandon Warren scored the go-ahead run on the play.

"Carson really gave us a lift offensively in the second game," said Watauga coach Bradley Rudisill. "We're still not producing a lot hits, but we're finding ways to

win. Carson really stepped up in that second game."
Hunter Isaacs was the benefactor as he picked up the win. He went five innings and gave up two earned runs on four hits, he walked three and struck out three. Dylan Lawrence drove in a run with a squeeze bunt in the fourth and Matt Lambert tripled. Watauga made six hits in the nightcap.
That certainly wasn't the case in game one, however. Watauga made six errors compared to just three hits in losing game one. And Watauga gave Patton an early 3-0 lead with three errors in the bottom of the first inning. Jesse Illich, who only lasted one inning, suffered the loss. He gave up three runs, all unearned, and walked two. Justin Greer drove in Watauga's only run.
"We just made some dumb plays in the field," Rudisill said. "Our heads weren't in the game. We threw the ball all over the place, and we even made two errors on just one play. But at least we got a split, and we earned it by playing better in the second game."
Watauga travels to Bunker Hill for a non-Area 4 game Sunday at 3 p.m. The Monday game against Fred T. Foard has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled; no make-up date has been announced for Friday's rain-out game against East Burke.
