The Hickory Crawdads scored five times in the bottom of the seventh and thumped the Greensboro Grasshoppers 11-4 at L.P. Frans Stadium on Friday night. The Crawdads (2-0; 38-33), who wiped out an early 3-0 deficit, snapped a 3-3 tie in the fifth inning by plating three runs in the frame. Three consecutive singles with one out by Luis Sardinas, Drew Robinson and Jeremy Williams, who drove in Sardinas, gave the Crawdads a 4-3 lead. Robinson and Williams scored on a two-out

RBI single by Jorge Alfaro moments later for a 6-3 lead. The Grasshoppers (0-2; 46-26) got a run back in the top of the seventh, but the Crawdads put the game out of reach with their five-run explosion in the bottom of the inning. With two outs, Williams belted a solo home run to right-center field that made it 7-3. Then Grayson walked and Alfaro was hit by a pitch putting runners at first and second. A wild pitch moved up ninety feet; Grayson scored on an RBI infield single by Jordan Akins, which led to a throwing error scoring Alfaro from second base on the play. Trever Adams put the final stamp on the onslaught with a two-run home run that rocketed over the left-field wall, increasing the Crawdads advantage at 11-4.
Left hander Chris Hanna went three innings in relief and picked up his second save of the year. Nicholas McBride (3-1) threw three scoreless innings of relief and picked up the win. Adams paced the Crawdads offensively with two hits, including a home run and three RBI; Williams had three hits, including a home run and two RBI; Grayson had two hits and drove in a run. The Crawdads made 13 hits. And former Appalachian State University player Rand Smith of the Grasshoppers, who was 1-3 with a double and an RBI, is batting .367 with seven RBI in his last ten games.
