The Watauga Blast softball team won its fifth consecutive game with a double-header sweep Wednesday night against Johnson County (TN.) at Happy Valley High School in Elizabethon, TN.  The Blast (5-0), which has outscored

its opponents 44-10 in five games, won game one, 15-0; and the Blast won game two, 4-2. Michala McCune got the win in the opener. She went four innings, scattered twp hits, with ten strikeouts and a walk. McCune also helped her own cause by going 3-4 with two runs-batted-in and two runs scored.
The Blast pounded out 15 hits. Kim Robinson continued her hot pace by going 3-3 with a walk, a double, a three-run homer (her 4th in 4 games), she scored two runs and drove in five. Hope LaPointe went 3-3 with an RBI and run scored.
In game two, Kristen Gill, a rising sophomore, went the distance, gave up two runs, both unearned, on two hits with five strikeouts and a walk. Robinson, who was 5-5 in the double-header sweep, was 2-2 in the nightcap; and Gill helped her own cause with a base hit and an RBI. LaPointe, who was 4-5 on the night, was 1-2 with two RBI in game two, and McCune walked twice and scored two runs in the second game.
"We're playing with a lot of confidence right now," said Watauga coach Jerry Moretz. "We're scoring a lot of runs, but we're also getting the job done in other areas as well. Defensively, we've only committed 5 errors all season, and our older players are performing well and doing a great job of helping the rising freshmen."
Watauga will take a two-week break before its next scheduled game against Hampton on July 10.
