Rockhold Announces Retirement PDF Print

Former Appalachian State University kicker Erik Rockhold, who played for the Mountaineers from 1999-2003, has announced his retirement from professional football. Rockhold, an All-America with the Mountaineers, played seven seasons (2006-12) in the Indoor Football League with the Reading Express. Rockhold, who scored his first

career touchdown on a one-yard run against the Chicago Slaughter on June 2, cracked the 1,000-point plateau in the season finale against the Green Bay Blizzard.
Rockhold played in 110 games and had 1,007 points in his career with the Express. He was a part of five division titles, and the Express won a league championship in the now defunct American Indoor Football Association in 2009. The Express has suspended operations for the 2013 season....And David Abernathy, the senior assistant strength coach at Clemson, has been named the new Director of Strength and Conditioning at Furman.
