Porter, McKaig, Jankowski Compete At Olympic Trials PDF Print

The USA Olympic Trials begin later this week, June 21-July 1, in Eugene, Ore., and Zap Fitness Foundation of Blowing Rock will be well represented in the field. Sarah Porter, Alissa McKaig and David Jankowski will begin competion Friday night in

the 10.000-meter run.  Porter, who turned in a 22nd-place finish at the Boston Marathon in April, qualified for the Olympic Trials by running a personal-best time of 32:37.22 at the Portland (Ore.) Track Festival on June 8. She beat the qualifying mark of 32:45 by eight seconds, and she bested her previous best outing by 20 seconds (32:57.31). Porter, who attended Western Washington University, is a 13-time All-America and she is also the 2011 NCAA Division II National Champion in the 10,000.
Alissa McKaig, who will also compete in the women's 5,000-meter run, qualified for the Trials by running 32:14 in the 10,000 and 15:28 in the 5,000. McKaig, a native of Fort Wayne, Ind., attended Michigan State University, where she finished tenth at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships; and she won the NAIA cross country title in 2011 at Indiana Tech, where she graduated from in 2011. Mckaig was a member of the bronze medal winning World XC Team in 2011 (28th place) and was selected to the World Track & Field Team for 2011 (Daegu, South Korea) in the marathon, where she finished 32nd in 2:38.23.
Jankowski is a 2008 graduate of Oklahoma State where he was an All-American for the Cowboys. Jankowski's 1st year at ZAP was extremely successful. The 26 year-old Idaho native ran personal bests this past year at 1500m, mile, 3,000m, 5000m, and 10,000m. Jankowski was 5th at the USATF Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 10,000m in 2010 and won the 2009 USATF Club XC Championships (leading ZAP to victory) in a 10,000m xc time of 29:18. Jankowski also ran his debut marathon on 10/3 finishing 4th at Twin Cities in a time of 2:16.15.
The men's 10,000 begins at 9:45 p.m EDT Friday night; the women's 10,000 begins at 10:20 EDT. The women's 5,000 will be held Monday night, June 25. The preliminaries begin at 6:05 EDT; the top eight finishers advance to the finals, which begin at 9:50 EDT.
