Championship Subdivision.com has released its Football Championship Subdivision pre-season all-america teams, and its pre-season candidates for the Walter Payton and Buck Buchanan Awards. And Appalachian State University is well represented.

Linebacker Jeremy Kimbrough, a senior from Decatur, Ga., who led the Mountaineers with 105 tackles last season, has been named a first-team FCS All-America on defense, and he is also on the Buck Buchanan Watch List. The Buchanan Award goes to the best defensive player in the nation at the FCS level. Kimbrough also had 12 tackles-for-loss, four quarterback sacks, an intercepiton, two fumble recoveries and he forced a fumble for the Mountaineers last season.
Defensive back Demetrius McCray of the Mountaineers was a second-team FCS defensive All-America. McCray, a senior from Covington, Ga., had a team-leading nine passes broken up and five interceptions for ASU last fall. He also made 48 stops, including 35 solo tackles, 2.5 TFL and two quarterback sacks. And he also joins Kimbrough on the Buchanan Watch List. ASU will open its season at East Carolina on Saturday, September 1 at 12 noon.
