Tyler Jones, much like Cal Hardee did back in 2009, is off to a blistering start at the Powerade North Carolina State Games in Winston-Salem, N.C. Jones, a rising senior at Watauga High playing for the Region 7 All-Stars, was 1-2

and drove in a run Friday morning as Region 7 defeated Region 3 by a 5-0 score at BB&T Ball Park in Winston-Salem.
Jones is 2-3 with an RBI (.666 batting average) in his first two games. Region 7, with the win, is 2-0 in pool play. Region 7 plays Region 5 Saturday night at 7 p.m. to close out pool play; the winner advances to the gold medal game on Sunday. Wake Forest University his hosting the baseball tournament. The consolation round will be played at Kernersville-Glenn Sunday morning (the seventh-place game starts at 9:30 a.m.; the fifth place game starts at 11:30 a.m.). The medal games will be played at Wake Forest (BB&T Ball Park) on Sunday (the bronze medal game starts at 10 a.m.; the gold medal game begins at 1 p.m.).
Hardee was 5-11 at the state games in '09 (.455 batting average). Jones batted .341 for the Pioneers last spring with a team-leading eight doubles, two triples, 15 RBI, 15 run scored, and he was tied for the team lead (with David Martin) with ten stolen bases. Jones was an Honorable Mention All-Northwestern 3A/4A Conference selection.
