Suns Burn Crawdads In Series Opener PDF Print

Christian Meza and two relief pitcher combined on a five-hit shutout Monday night as The Hagerstown Suns cruised to the 9-0 win against the Hickory Crawdads at Municipal Stadium in Hagerstown.  The Suns (39-24) took the

lead in the bottom of the first and never looked back. An RBI single by Jason Martinson, drove in Cutter Dykstra for a 1-0 lead.
An RBI double by Brian Goodwin in the second inning gave the Suns a 2-0 lead; and a solo home run by Matt Skole and a run-scoring  single by Justin Miller gave the Suns a four-run lead. Leading 6-0, the Suns finally broke the game open with three more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Cole Ramsey drove in a run with a ground-ball out; Miller drove in his second run of the game with an RBI single that made it 8-0; and an RBI double by Cole Leonida closed out the scoring and gave the Suns a commanding 9-0 lead.
Meza, who picked up his fourth win of the year, gave up two hits and struck out six in five innings; in turn, losing pitcher Santo Perez (2-5) was touched up for six earned runs on ten hits in his five-inning outing. Jeremy Williams was Hickory's (34-29) most productive hitter. He was 2-4. Miller and Leonida paced the Suns with three hits and two RBI apiece; Martinson and Skole each had two hits and drove in a run; Hagerstown made 14 hits.
