A four-run rally in the seventh inning fueled a huge comeback for the Charleston RiverDogs as they came-from-behind and beat the Hickory Crawdads 9-5 at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park on Wednesday night. Trailing
5-4, Mason Williams sparked the seventh-inning charge with a lead-off double. He moved to third on a ground ball to short. Another ground ball to short allowed Williams to scamper home with the tying run. A fielding error by Hanser Alberto kept the inning alive. Dante Bichette, Jr., singled, and Angelo Gumbs capped off the rally with a three-run homer over the left-center field wall that gave the RiverDogs an 8-5 lead.
That outburst wiped out a three-run rally by the Crawdads (31-27) in the fourth inning. Trailing 3-2, Drew Robinson and Alejandro Selen got things started the stanza with a single and a walk putting two runners on at first and second with nobody out. Kevin Torres followed with an RBI single to center field that scored Robinson with the tying run; Trever Adams drove in Selen with a grounder to third base, making it 4-3. He also reached safely thanks to a fielding error by Bichette, Chris Grayson had a bunt single that loaded the bases with nobody out, and Luis Sardinas brought in the inning's final run with a double play ball hit to second base that gave Hickory a 5-3 lead.
Will Lamb (0-5) suffered the loss in relief. He coughed up four runs, but only one earned, in just over an inning of work. Williams paced the RiverDogs (36-22) with two hits, including a double, and three runs scored in three plate appearances. Alberto drove in two runs for the Crawdads; Sardinas, Adams and Zach Cone each had two hits apiece for Hickory.
