The Appalachian State University men's 4x100-meter relay team burned up the track on Wedneday night in the preliminary round of the NCAA National Championships at Drake University in Des Moines, Ia. The quartet of Landon Powell, Dennis Moore, A.J. Dohanic and Justin Thonmas finished 14th overall (sixth in their heat) against a very

strong field. They also set a new school record in the 400 relay by completing the race in 39.70 seconds. That effort broke the school mark of 39.87 set by this same group at the NCAA East Regional in Jacksonville, Fla., on May 26.
Auburn won the race in 38.53; Tennessee finished eighth in 39.25, leaving ASU just .35 seconds shy of making the cut. The top eight teams advanced to the finals on Saturday. Three of the four runners on ASU's 4x100 team return next season (Moore is a senior, Dohanic, Powell and Thomas are all juniors).
