Hank Newson, who produced a 19-win season in his first and only season as head coach at West Caldwell High, has been named the new men's basketball coach at Mountain Heritage. He's the Cougars' third head coach in three years. He replaces Dwayne Buckner, who was 17-10 with the Cougars last year before he resigned. Buckner replaced Barry

Johnson, who retired after the 2010-11 season.
Newson, who was an assistant coach for Danny Anderson (who returns this season after taking a year off) for seven years, made his debut as a varsity head coach last season. The end result, he led the Warriors to a 19-7 record and the Class 2A sectional finals. They lost to Shelby in the Class 2A sectional championship game. For his efforts, he was named the Catawba Valley 2A Conference Coach of the Year.
