Georgia Southern's Victor Roache (Ypsilanti, Mich.) became the fifth Eagle drafted in the first round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft after being selected 28th overall by the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday night.  Roache

missed all but six games of the 2012 season with a wrist injury but still became the first GSU player drafted in the opening round since Joey Hamilton was selected 8th overall in 1991. The junior outfielder is also the highest-ever selection among current Southern Conference schools while they were a league member, surpassing The Citadel's Asher Wojciechowski, who went 41st overall in 2010.
After leading the NCAA in home runs in 2011 with a school and Southern Conference record 30, Roache was off to a hot start in 2012 and was hitting .412 with two home runs and 5 RBIs before being sidelined for the rest of the season.  Roache racked up a number of awards after his record-setting sophomore campaign including numerous All-American honors, SoCon Player of the Year, Cape Cod League Outstanding Pro Prospect and was a finalist at the College Baseball Home Run Derby.
The Brewers picked an Eagle for the second-straight year after picking former Eagle pitcher Andy Moye in the 15th round of the 2011 draft. Moye is currently in Advanced Class A and is a member of the Brevard County Manatees in the Florida State League.
