'Dads Power Past West Virginia, 9-6 PDF Print

The Hickory Crawdads hit four home runs and won their fifth in a row as they belted West Virginia 9-6 at L.P. Frans Stadium on Friday night. Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the first inning, Chris Grayson put the Crawdads (28-25) on the board with a solo home run. And the Crawdads tied things up with a two more runs in the bottom of the second. A two-out single by

Jordan Aikns kept the inning alive, and a two-run homer by Jhonny Gomez tied things up at 3-3. The Power (18-37) regained the lead in the top of the third. A bases-loaded walk to Elias Diaz forced in a run and gave the Power a 4-3 lead. A wild pitch by Santo Perez moments later scored another run making it 5-3. But the Crawdads rallied and finally took the lead in the fifth inning. Rougned Odor sparked the rally with a leadoff double. Grayson singled to center field. Odor rounded third on the play and headed for home; Grayson tried to take second base on the throw home, but first baseman Chris Lashmet cut it off and retired Grayson at second base. Odor scored on the play making it 5-4. 
One out later, Zach Cone tied the game with a solo home run; Drew Robinson walked with two outs to extend the inning. Clario Perez came on in relief, and Jeremy Williams quickly welcomed him to the mound with a two-run bomb, giving Hickory a 7-5 lead.
The 'Dads scored again in the sixth. Akins led off with a single and promptly stole second base. He moved to third on a ground out, and he scored on a wild pitch by Perez making it 8-5.
An RBI double by Dan Gamache in the seventh made it 8-6;, but Hickory stretched the lead right back out in the bottom of the inning. Robinson walked, took second base when Williams was hit by a pitch. Kellin Deglan stepped up and ripped an RBI double to right field scoring Robinson.
Andrew Faulkner (2-3) got the win with three scoreless innings of relief; Nick McBride logged three innings and picked up his first save of the year. Aikns had two hits and scored twice; Grayson had two hits and drove in a run; Williams and Gomez each had two RBI.
