Lees-McRae College men's soccer coach Lee Squires, along with several current and former members of the Bobcat men's soccer program, are spending the summer months in the best way they know: on the pitch in United Soccer Leagues' Premier Development League. Squires is embracing an opportunity that few former players receive, getting a chance

to return to the pitch following one of the best individual careers in Lees-McRae and Conference Carolinas history. The Bobcats' all-time leader in both goals and points, Squires led the Bobcats to a strong season in his first year at the helm, as Lees-McRae posted a 15-6-1 record while finishing runner-up for both the Conference Carolinas regular season and tournament titles.
"We are excited to see our student-athletes and coaches represent the college in such a high manner," said Director of Athletics Craig McPhail. "Summer professional leagues are a great way to build talents, friendships and memories, and I am very proud of our young people taking advantage of this time."
The Sheffield, England native has appeared in each of the season's first three matches for Palmetto Bantams FC of the South Atlantic Division, logging 252 minutes, tallying an assist, and attempting six shots on frame. Squires is joined in Palmetto's side by former Bobcat Luke Perry, who has appeared in three matches while logging 261 minutes and one of Palmetto's three goals in the early going.
Rising junior James Galvani (High Wycombe, England) is enjoying a strong start to the season for Toronto Lynx of the Great Lakes Division, slotting home two goals in three appearances while making seven attempts on frame. The 6-3, 175-pound forward put together an impressive sophomore campaign with the Bobcats this past fall, leading the team in goals (11) and points (26) thanks to a torrid five-match stretch in which he found the back of the net on nine occasions.
Two-time all-Southeast Region selection Thomas Rusling (Sheffield, England) is laying the foundation for a solid season with the West Virginia Chaos of the South Atlantic Division, earning the win in each of his first three appearances while allowing just two goals. The Sheffield, England native has posted 16 saves and one clean sheet thus far, building on a successful campaign with the Green and Gold that earned him a spot on the NSCAA NCAA Division II all-Southeast Region Third team.
The PDL regular season runs through Sunday, July 15, followed by one of the most competitive postseasons the United Soccer Leagues have to offer. To stay up-to-date with the Bobcats' success in the PDL this summer, log on to or tune in to for periodic updates throughout the season.
