Crawdads Ground Shorebirds, 8-3 PDF Print

The Hickory Crawdads got their brief three-game road trip started on a good note Monday night. The Crawdads (24-25) took the series opener against the Delmarva Shorebirds, 8-3 at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. Hickory also tied the team

record with six stolen bases in the game. The Crawdads grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the the first inning and never looked back. Chris Grayson, who was hitless on the night but drove in two runs, drove in a run with a base-loaded walk. Hickory added to its lead with three runs in the top of the third. Luis Sardinas started things started by reaching on an error; he stole second base, and moved to third on a passed ball, Hanser Alberto, who had two hits and three RBI on the night, drove him in with an RBI single. A single by Zach Cone and a walk to Drew Robinson loaded the bases with nobody out. Grayson and Jordan Akins plated consecutive runs with a pair of sacrifice flies that gave the Crawdads a 4-0 lead.
Winning pitcher Luke Jackson (4-4) turned in a solid effort. He went six-plus innings and gave up an earned run on six hits with four strikeouts. Wynston Sawyer finally got the Shorebirds (21-29) on the board in the bottom of the fourth with a sacrifice fly. But the Crawdads put the issue to rest with a single run in the sixth on RBI single by Alberto that made it 5-1; and three more runs in the seventh.
With one out, Akins and Kellin Deglan reached on back-to-back singles. Trever Adams and Rougned Odor followed with consecutive run-scoring singles that made it 7-1. A sacrifice fly by Alberto closed out the scoringm, giving Hickory a commanding 8-1 lead.
