Day Two ASU Track Results From Jacksonville PDF Print

The Appalachian State University track team completed its second day of competiiton at the NCAA East Regionals at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla., at the Univeristy of North Florida. Landon Powell of the Mountaineers, who qualified for the quarterfinal round of the men's 100-meter dash, was eliminated Friday night as he finished 23rd in 10.51 seconds. The top

12 advanced to the NCAA Championships at Drake University in Des Moines,. Ia.  Powell missed the cut-off by .19 seconds (Horatio Williams of Florida State finished 12th in 10.32). Jared Stallings finished 43rd in the hammer throw (179 feet) Friday night; Sean Soderman was 25th (9:01.21) in the men's 3,000-meter steeple chase; Josh Cox was 36th (9:10.46) in that event, and Chris Moen was 43rd (9:19.24); A.J. Dohanic was 45th in the 110-meter high hurdles (14.49).
Jamal Tiller fouled on all three of his attempts and did not place in the men's triple jump; Cassie Crawford had no height in the women's pole vault and did not place. Regional competition wraps up today. Darius Powell and Daryl Saunders of the Mountaineers will compete in the men's high jump; Alex Taylor will compete in the men's 1,500-meter run; and ASU will compete in the men's 4x100-meter relay (Powell, Dennis Moore, Dohanic and Justin Thomas).
