Brint Russell has been named the new football coach at Newton-Conover High. Russell, who graduated from Black Mountain-Owen in 1997, was the head coach at Heritage High (a Class 6A school) in Maryville, TN., the last three years. He won eight games during that stretch. He replaces Nick Bazzle, who left after 13 years with the Red Devils. Bazzle takes over

at Alexander Central next fall. Russell was an assistant coach at McDowell and he was the Offensive Coordinater under Roy Kirby at Shelby-Crest.
He will make his debut on August 24, when Newton-Conovers opens the season at home against Hickory. The Red Devils were a disappointing 5-7 last year.
