Swansboro’s quest for a return trip to the state championship game came to an end Tuesday night against a team coach Doug Kidd said was simply “the better team". Carrbprp scored three times in the second half and beat the Pirates 5-1 in the Class 2A East Regional Finals. It was also the third consecutive meeting between theses schools in the regional

championship. The Pirates beat the Jaguars 4-1 in 2010 (the year Swansboro won the state title), Carrboro topped Swansboro 3-0 in last year’s regional final.
The Pirates finish their season with a 21-5-3 record; Carrboro (20-1-2), last year’s state runner-up, will play in the state championship game Saturday at 5 p.m. against Cuthbertson (19-4-1), which won the title last year.
