The Asheville Tourists defeated the Hickory Crawdads, 6-2 Friday night at Historic McCormick Field. A two-run homer by Sam Mende in the third inning gave the Tourists (24-15) a 3-2 lead, and put them on top to stay. The Tourists pulled away from there as they handed the Crawdads (19-18) their fifth loss in a row.  Asheville padded its lead with a run in the seventh and

two more in the eighth. With runners at first and second in the seventh, Jose Rivera broke for third and scored on cathcer Kellin Deglan's throwing error that sailed into left field. An RBI single by Jared Simon and an RBI grounder by Rivera in the eighth made it 6-2.
Victor Payano (3-2) suffered the loss. He coughed up three earned runs on four hits. A sacrifice fly by Deglen in the second inning gave the Crawdads an early 1-0 lead. But a two-out single by Rivera in the bottom of the second tied the game at 1-1. The Crawdads regained the lead with a run in the third as Luis Sardinas, who reached on a one-out single and moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Roughned Odor, scored on a throwing error by Tourists catcher Ryan Casteel for a 2-1 lead.
